Mozzarella in Carozza Recipe - #FormaggioChallenge

Last week, I told you all about a recipe contest I will be running with Cooking Planit and Formaggio Cheese. The day is finally here! Today through June 19th, you can submit a recipe using cheese through this link. Three very lucky people will win a Formaggio Cheese Basket ($100 value), A 5-piece Cheese Knife Set ($50 value) and have their recipe featured on Cooking Planit!

For this challenge, I made something that is not on my wedding diet - Mozzarella in Carozza (Mozzarella in a carriage). This cheat meal was worth every moment and is very easy to make. When the Mozzarella is contained between two slices of crustless white bread and fried, you end up with a sandwich full of oozing and milky mozzarella.
It's a simple rustic Tuscan sandwich using a small amount of ingredients. Bread, milk, flour, egg, salt and pepper. I added some prosciutto to mine although you wouldn't know it by the photos. The Mozzarella took center stage. Show off.
Mozzarella in Carozza Recipe:
6 slices white bread (crusts removed)
1 4oz ball of mozzarella, cut into 1/4" slices then into strips
6 thin slices of proscuitto
1/2 cup of milk
Flour for dredging
1 egg lightly beat
Salt and Pepper
Oil for frying (not EVOO)

Directions:
If you have not done so yet, remove the crust from white bread. Using white bread will make this process a lot easier since it is easier to manage. Layer mozzarella and prosciutto all the way to the edges. Press the edges of the bread together, sealing the sandwich.

Dunk your sandwich in the milk, then in the flour and finally in the egg bath.

Fry in hot oil on each side until golden brown and place on a paper towel to cool. Cut in half and enjoy!
