Margarita Recipes for Cinco De Mayo

It's Cinco De Mayo, which means a Monday spent testing margarita recipes! Kidding, I do not drink tequila at 8am.. Here is a compilation of margarita recipes I've tried over the past few weeks which are all delicious and would make a perfect addition to your Cinco De Mayo party.

Prickly Pear Margarita
For a colorful margarita, try Bungalow 23 Prickly Pear Margarita. A pre-made culinary craft cocktail mixer which uses Prickly Pears from California's Salinas Valley, fresh limes and oranges, blue agave nectar and a hint of cilantro. Not only is this drink beautiful, it is delicious and simple to make. All you have to do is add tequila for a perfect margarita that will be the star of any cocktail party.

Prickly Pear Margarita Recipe:
4oz Bungalow 23 Prickly Pear Margarita Mix
1 1/2 oz agave tequilla
Ice
Directions
Shake all of the ingredients in a mixer, pour into a margarita glass and enjoy!

Jalapeno Cucumber Margarita
For a margarita with a kick, try this recipe from my favorite watering hole in Epcot - La Cava del Tequila’s Jalapeño Margarita. I adapted this popular recipe by adding cilantro and additional cucumber to the mix as the traditional recipe is a bit too spicy for me.

Jalapeno Cucumber Margarita Recipe
2 parts freshly squeezed lime juice
2 parts tequila blanco (El Mayor or your favorite)
1 part Triple Sec
1 part agave nectar
1/3 of a jalapeño pepper, cleaned and cut in large pieces
3 half-inch slices of a halved and cored cucumber (I add 5)
handful of fresh cilantro
Salt, for rimming the glass
Directions
Muddle the jalapeno, cucumber, cilantro, agave and lime juice. Add tequila, triple sec and shake. Pour into a salt rimmed glass.

Classic Margarita

I am a self-proclaimed margarita snob and do not like pre-made mixes (with the exception of craft cocktails like Bungalow 23). However, Zing Zang changed my outlook on this years ago with their amazing bloody mary mix. They're at it again with margarita's and this is a perfect pre-made mix if you do not have the time to make a homemade concoction.

Zing Zang Margarita Recipe:
4oz Zing Zang Margarita Mix
1 1/2 oz agave tequilla
Ice
Salt (I used pink Himalayan salt)
Directions
Shake all of the ingredients in a mixer, pour into a salt rimmed margarita glass and enjoy!

Avocado Margarita
While this may sound odd to those who have yet to try this margarita, it is one of the most refreshing drinks I've ever had. Blend an avocado into a margarita and you will get a very creamy delicious margarita.
Avacado Margarita Recipe
2 ounces silver tequila
1/2 skinned avocado, pitted and chopped into quarters
1/2 ounce agave nectar (or more to taste)
1 Cilantro leaf
2 cups of ice
Directions
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Pour into a margarita glass.

  1. I remember that avocado marg recipe from your blog! Seriously, I need to make that. And the zing-zang rimmed margarita...wow. That's just wrong (but so right). Butttt I think my favorite recipe you listed is definitely the Epcot Cucumber and Jalapeño one....sooo up my alley! Too bad I can't teleport you here so we could drink our day away at a mexican restaurant together. Damn.
