I'm a slacker and I know it......

I have a confession to make - I am a training slacker. My marathon training last week went nothing as expected.

Monday - it rained all day and I wanted nothing to do with the treadmill. So I drank a bottle of wine.
Tuesday - guess what - it rained.
Wednesday - you'll never believe it, it rained all day. Since we had Thursday off work and decided to drink half of our weight in alcohol.
Thursday - it wasn't raining...see Wednesday as to why I didn't run.
Friday - Ran two miles straight averaging a 9 minute mile
Saturday - Ran 6 miles slow, wanted to die. Realized I not only hate bridges but also hate running over them. I also hate humidity and heat but that isn't new knowledge. Saw some old friends and celebrated my step-brothers 30th birthday.
Sunday - Dang....I gained 3 lbs this week, went to the beach, got sunburned, watched Dexter & Trueblood

118 (not my weight).  That is the amount of days I have until the New York Marathon. Um.....
One of the key reasons I started this blog was to make me accountable to myself. I never thought I would have one subscriber yet today I sit here with more than I could have ever dreamed of and am beyond grateful for that. So I am asking you all for help, I need encouragement, support and possibly a body double to get ready for the New York Marathon. To be honest, when I applied, I never thought in a million years that I would get in. Since I have the Dopey Challenge in January, I knew I had to run at least one full prior to the 4 days. Never thought it would be NY. I have to stop making excuses for everything. Running the New York Marathon is a chance in a lifetime and I do not feel like I have taken it serious up until this point.

I am stepping up the training plan to 4 days a week, following a plan I found in Runners World July issue. I generally do not run on Sunday's so this will be interesting to switch things up a bit.

Monday (today) 3 miles
Wednesday 3 miles
Friday 3 miles
Sunday 3 miles

The following week
Monday 3 miles
Wednesday 3 miles
Friday 4 miles
Sunday 7 miles

PS - I'm claustrophobic and hate bridges so this could be my WORST nightmare. God help me. I think I just got hives looking at this photo.

  1. Hi Megan! Nah, you're certainly not a slacker. The way I see it is that you listened to your body and next week you will be stronger!

I'm with you on the heat and humidity...and we had way too much rain/thunderstorms here last week. Spent a couple days on the treadmill, and after 2 days thought I'd kill myself if I did a third. lol

  2. Aww Megan!! It was a bad week!! Don't be too hard on yourself :) Maybe you need a trainer to keep you accountable? Someone who has done multiple marathons and can coach you/keep you accountable. I'm sure there are some in Tampa. I've always felt like gym trainers keep me accountable...I have faith in you either way though!!!

  3. Don't be too hard on yourself. It's SO early in marathon training. You've got tons of time to ease into it and get into gear. As for brides, maybe don't think of them in NYC as bridges, but as photo opps? You get THE best views of NYC from the first two bridges of the race. And the biggest of the bridges is the first two miles of the race, so you'll get it done right away. 3 of the bridges are pretty flat, so they don't feel very bridgey at all. The worst of them--the Queensboro Bridge--also has the biggest pay off. When you get off of it, you're met by the biggest crowds of the entire race. It's REALLY energizing. So as you're running over it, just focus on the big boost you're going to get when it's behind you. You can TOTALLY do this@
