Salted Caramel Brownie Cookies for The Ultimate Cookie Exchange #SundaySupper

I AM NOT A BAKER. I bake out of a box. I received a Kitchenaid mixer a year ago and have tried a few times to make cookies from scratch. Once I failed miserably. Why you ask? Because I am a cook, I substitute. You can't substitute in baking. I thought I could use flavored coffee creamer in place of milk. See, I'm not a baker.
So this week's Sunday Supper is favorite cookie exchange. My signature Snowball cookies were already being baked by a few others in the Sunday Supper family. So, I thought I would give this little baking thing a try once again and make Salted Caramel Brownie Cookies.

Have you ever burnt chocolate in the microwave? Forgotten a key ingredient? Had your Kitchenaid throw flour all over you?  Thanks to these cookies, I have! Somehow, by the grace of the baking gods, with everything that wen't wrong, my cookies turned out pretty and delicious.

I found a recipe for Salted Chocolate Brownie Cookies from Season's and Suppers. I used her recipe but left out the second half of chocolate chips. After putting a thumb print in the cookie, I put them in the oven for 5 minutes at 350, removed and added caramel sauce to the thumb mark. Back in the oven for an additional 5 minutes and sprinkled some sea salt on them immediately. You can find her recipe here and use the adjustments I mentioned above.

  3. You know, I bake all the time - but even I have disasters once in a while. One time I made a cookie recipe 3 times before doing it right. Each time I left something out. The first time I left out the sugar - blah. The next time I left out the leavening, and had beautiful bricks. Finally the third time was the charm.
Keep at it! Even the best have flops :)

  7. lol, even as a self-professed "baker" I've still had all those things happen to me and more! I've had plenty of epic fails in the kitchen but I just laugh and keep on baking. I'm glad you didn't let these little mishaps stop you from creating these amazing cookies. They've got everything I love in one little bite (yes, I say "one little bite" because seriously, I would inhale these, no joke).
